The World Federation of United Nations Association (WFUNA) connects the UN member countries with their citizens through education and training to promote global citizenship. WFUNA is a global non-profit organization that aims to promote student engagement in international relations.
The United Nations Online (UNO) program and the United Nations Advanced Training (UNAT) program differ significantly in format, accessibility, duration, and structure. UNO is conducted entirely online, allowing students from all over the world to participate and access exclusive program content. In contrast, UNAT is an in-person program held in New York, where students are hosted at the United Nations headquarters. Another key difference is the duration and structure of the programs. UNO spans 10 weeks throughout the semester, offering a comprehensive and extended engagement with United Nations topics and activities. On the other hand, UNAT is a 7-day intensive program that provides a concentrated experience, immersing students in United Nations activities over the course of one week.
Admissions offices in the U.S. review Letters of Recommendation to gain insight into a student’s leadership potential and contribution made to the community. Within 1 week of the completion of UNAT course, WFUNA will mail out the Recommendation Letter to each students that will portray your leadership and intellectual potential. If you would like the Letters of Recommendation to be submitted directly to each university according to submission protocols, please contact Stanley Prep as soon as your university application is submitted.
This program is a short-term training program in the U.S. Applicants from countries not participating in the Visa Waiver Program with the U.S. are required to obtain a short-term visa. Stanley Prep will provide a visa support letter upon request. Applicants from countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program with the U.S. require authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).
In the event of an emergency, participants should notify Stanley Prep as soon as possible. As a U.S.-based company, Stanley Prep is prepared to quickly provide support through various local networks. Participants should call 911 if presented with a life-threatening medical or safety emergency. Please note that 911 should only be called in serious situations that require an immediate response from police officers and medical personnel. In all other cases, Stanley Prep should be the first point of contact and we will work to help you resolve any issues that may arise.
The School Cohort (DIY) format is a school-requested version of UNAT-style global leadership training. Schools choose the focus areas they want their students to learn, and Stanley Prep helps shape a structured program plan around those topics.
This option is designed for Middle School and High School students who are interested in global issues, leadership, public policy, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
The main UNAT program follows a fixed, selective cohort format.
The School Cohort (DIY) option is custom-built for a specific school—with schools selecting the training themes and goals based on their student group (e.g., MUN team, leadership cohort, global studies track).
Schools can request a cohort experience focused on themes such as:
- Global issues and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)
- Leadership and diplomacy fundamentals
- Policy thinking: how to frame problems and propose solutions
- Negotiation and consensus-building
- Public speaking, debate-style communication, and formal presentations
- UN systems and how international cooperation works
- Human rights, climate, public health, peace and security (topic examples)
(You can tailor this list to match what you actually offer.)
Yes. You can align the cohort program with their MUN activities, debate program, student council leadership development, global studies classes, or service-learning initiatives.
Cohorts can be designed for different group sizes but it works best with a defined group such as a leadership cohort, class section, or club team. Once you share your estimated numbers, we’ll recommend the best structure.
It’s a separate option created for schools that want a customized learning track. It keeps the same spirit of UN-focused global leadership training, but the topics and structure are selected by the school.
No. MUN experience is helpful but not required. The program is designed for students who are ready to participate in structured discussions, collaborative activities, and guided learning.
DIY means the school chooses the topics and learning goals. Stanley Prep then helps translate those goals into a structured program plan (sessions, learning outcomes, and student activities) that fits your cohort.
Stanley Prep can provide:
- A topic-planning call to confirm goals and student profile
- A recommended program outline based on the school’s selected themes
- Student readiness guidance and preparation prompts
- Parent-ready overview language (if requested)
- A clear coordination process with a school point-person
- Room and board for participating students (as included in the cohort package)
- Local transportation during the program
At this time, the School Cohort (DIY) format is offered in New York City, with programming connected to the United Nations Headquarters learning environment. Once your school submits an inquiry (grade levels, group size, and preferred dates), we’ll confirm the available schedule and coordination details for your cohort.
(If we are to offer this online/hybrid, I’ll rewrite this to be specific.)
Schools typically plan cohort programs around school calendar windows (summer, winter break, or specific travel periods). Share your preferred timeframe, and we’ll advise the best planning lead time.
Schools can request documentation aligned with the cohort program format (e.g., certificate of completion and a summary of training themes). Final documentation depends on the selected structure and deliverables.
Schools can submit a cohort request with:
- Preferred dates or time window
- Estimated number of students + grade levels
- Topics/themes requested
- Any special goals (MUN readiness, leadership development, policy writing, etc.)
We recommend the inquiry comes from a school representative such as:
- Professors
- Principals
- Counselors / College counselors
- Global programs coordinators / international offices
- MUN, debate, or leadership faculty advisor
