Through the Stanley Prep GLI program, I did a 3- week internship with the office of Congressman Jimmy Gomez. I learned a lot from this internship— it gave me a strong idea of what it would be like to work in politics and public policy, and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the job that I got to do. Overall, this was a great opportunity that helped me learn and grow in many ways, and I’m so glad that I was able do this program.

The UNAT program greatly expanded my understanding of global leadership and international relations. Before, I didn’t fully grasp what the UN was, but through briefings and a tour, I gained valuable insights into its inner workings. The visits to Congress also opened my eyes to how the U.S. political system operates. I learned that anyone, regardless of background, can make an impact in Congress if they work hard. This experience sparked my interest in political science, and now I’m motivated to pursue a career in international relations, with clear steps for the future. I’m grateful for this opportunity.

My experience in the Global Leadership Program was truly transformative. The most impactful aspect for me was discovering the commonality in major global issues, a topic often overlooked. Learning about these challenges alongside experts and professionals actively working in the field was incredibly meaningful and eye-opening. Through UN staff briefings, I gained valuable insights into global issues and how countries leverage international cooperation and frameworks like the SDGs to address challenges and improve their strategies. This perspective enriched my understanding of global leadership and international relations. The program also introduced me to a wide range of career possibilities. It inspired me to explore new paths and broadened my vision for future opportunities. While I haven’t finalized my career goals yet, this experience has been instrumental in shaping my aspirations and sparking my interest in impactful roles.

The Global Leadership Training Program at the United Nations was a transformative experience for me. I gained valuable political knowledge, learning how leaders debate, persuade, and enact laws to govern effectively. Discussions with U.S. lawmakers, including Senator Butler, provided unique insights into how their work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in health, wellness, and economics. Initially, I aspired to follow a career in engineering like my father, but this program inspired me to reconsider. Through engaging with remarkable politicians and exploring the political field, I am now seriously considering pursuing a career in this area. It has been a truly inspiring journey.

I truly enjoyed meeting Senator Butler from California, who offered an honest and insightful perspective on her work in Congress and the challenges she addresses for her state. Talking with a member of Representative Gomez's staff was equally inspiring, as I learned about the behind-the-scenes efforts that keep our government functioning. These conversations provided invaluable insight into what it takes to succeed on Capitol Hill. The Global Leadership Training Program also expanded my understanding of global leadership. While I’ve always wanted a career centered on helping people, interacting with diplomats, UN staff, and congressional offices showed me diverse ways to make an impact. I gained a deeper appreciation for the UN’s operations and the role of international representation. Through this program, I also developed crucial communication and adaptability skills. Collaborating with peers and professionals taught me the importance of effectively expressing ideas and working with diverse personalities, which I know will benefit my future workplace and internships. Overall, this experience strengthened my passion for leadership and my commitment to pursuing a meaningful career.
