Ten Advertising
Thanks to Stanley Prep, I had the chance to intern at an advertising company in the U.S. My coworkers were welcoming and taught me a lot. I gained insight into cultural differences between Korea and the U.S., which made me more open-minded and considerate. Meeting people with diverse perspectives challenged the way I think, and I left with new friends and unforgettable memories. I’m so grateful for this experience!

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need To Know

The Optional Practical Training (OPT) program allows international students in the U.S. on an F-1 visa to gain professional work experience related to their field of study. The program can last up to one year, with an extension available for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students, allowing them to work for up to three years. This program helps students apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings.
International students who are currently enrolled in a full-time degree program under F-1 visa are eligible to apply for OPT. OPT can be utilized during or after your studies, but must be related to your major.
To apply for OPT, students must first request authorization through their university’s Designated School Official (DSO). Once authorized, students can apply for OPT approval with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
While on OPT, you can work either part-time or full-time. Students can work up to 20 hours per week, and during breaks or after graduation, they can work full-time (up to 40 hours per week).
The standard OPT duration is 12 months. If you are in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) field, you may be eligible for a 24-month extension, allowing for a total of 36 months of OPT.
OPT can lead to full-time employment, but it is not a guarantee. If your employer is interested in hiring you permanently, they may sponsor you for a work visa such as the H-1B. The OPT experience can help you build your network and increase your chances of securing a full-time position.
There are fees associated with the OPT application, which must be paid directly to USCIS as part of the application process. Your university or a sponsor may also charge a processing fee for any associated services.
Traveling while on OPT can be complicated. You may leave the U.S. and re-enter, but you should ensure that you have proper documentation, such as a valid passport, valid F-1 visa, and an employment authorization card (EAD). Consult with your DSO before making travel plans.
It’s essential to find a job related to your field of study during your OPT. You are allowed 90 days of unemployment during the 12-month OPT period, but exceeding this can affect your status. It’s important to keep your DSO updated with your employment status.
Our program matches you with reputable host companies in your field, ensures compliance with OPT regulations, and provides career support services to help you succeed. We streamline the application process, offer career advising, and help you build the skills necessary to land your next big job.
