Optional Practical Training (OPT) Program
Participants: International students recently graduated from premier U.S. universities
Program period: 1-3 years, depending on major

J-1 Intern & Trainee Program
Participants: International students from top overseas universities eager to gain professional experience in the U.S.

Online Internship Program

Eligibility for Host Organizations
Stanley Prep evaluates host organization eligibility based on U.S. Department of State requirements and its own policies to ensure a high-quality program experience. Host organizations must demonstrate the capacity to provide structured, meaningful training that enhances professional skills while offering insights into American culture and business practices.

General Eligibility:
- Must have been operational for at least one year.
- Must employ a minimum of five full-time staff at the training site (Hosts for Online Internship are exempted).
- Must have a valid Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Tax ID and, where required, an active Worker’s Compensation policy.

Program Standards:
- Provide a minimum of 32 hours per week with clearly defined training objectives and activities (Hosts for Online Internship are exempted).
- Offer on-site supervision and mentorship by experienced staff.
- Facilitate educational and cultural experiences for exchange participants, both within and outside the workplace.
- Ensure participants complete arrival notifications and required evaluations.
- Provide an orientation covering organization policies, rules, and any available benefits to help participants integrate successfully into the program.

Interview Requirement:
- All interns and trainees must be interviewed by the host organization or sponsor via video conference, phone, or in-person. Documentation of the interview is required.

Compliance with Labor Laws:
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local labor and wage laws, including withholding applicable taxes.
- J-1 participants are exempt from FICA and FUTA taxes but must pay federal, state, and local taxes. All OPT and J-1 participants must also obtain a Social Security Number if compensated by a U.S. entity.
- Compensation cannot be based on tips, and participants should not be considered independent contractors.

Prohibited Use of Program:
- The program cannot be used for ordinary employment or to displace American workers.
- The program cannot be used to assist individuals in staying in the U.S. beyond their program dates.

Ensure a safe and professional workplace for participants.

Compensate participants in compliance with local county regulations.

Maintain regular communication with Stanley Prep to uphold program standards.

Offer meaningful professional learning experiences whenever possible.
By adhering to these guidelines, host organizations contribute to a meaningful and impactful exchange program for all participants.

Prohibited Roles:
- Interns and trainees cannot perform unskilled or casual labor, or roles with over 20% clerical duties. Positions involving childcare, elder care, patient care, dentistry, veterinary services, psychological therapy, sports therapy, coaching, construction, or home-based trades are ineligible.

Excluded Sites:
- Camps, residential facilities, economy hotels, fast-food outlets, bakeries, home offices, or businesses operating in retail or home-based construction are not eligible for sponsorship.

How to Apply
As part of onboarding for new host organizations, the following steps are required:

Review Eligibility Requirements:
- Confirm that your organization meets our Host Organization Eligibility criteria to qualify as a host organization. Host Organizations will be notified of what programs they are eligible for as different eligibility requirements apply to different programs.

Submit the Host Organization Application Form:
- Provide detailed information about your organization and proposed job details. This is essential for evaluating eligibility and is required for all program applications.

Participate in an Orientation:
- Attend a brief video orientation with a Stanley Prep representative to understand the J-1 program requirements and guidelines. Applications cannot be processed until the orientation is complete and the participant (intern or trainee) application is submitted.

Pay the New Host Organization Fee:
- If your organization is new to our programs, a one-time fee will apply. Please refer to the “Other Fees” tab of the “Cost and Fees” section for more details.
A site visit may be required to verify that your organization meets the U.S. Department of State’s basic hosting requirements. This step is mandatory for organizations that:

Employ fewer than 25 staff at the program site.

Generate less than $3 million in annual revenue.

Organizations that have not hosted a successful program* with Stanley Prep within the past three years must undergo the onboarding process, including any required site visits.

During the visit, you will need to:
- Provide a copy of your workers’ compensation policy.
- Offer a brief tour of the workspace designated for the intern or trainee.
- Answer any questions related to the Training/Internship Placement Plan.

Academic and government institutions are generally exempt from site visit requirements.
