The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is a global nonprofit organization representing and coordinating a membership of over 100 national United Nations Associations (UNAs) and their thousands of constituents. Guided by their vision of a United Nations that is a powerful force in meeting common global challenges and opportunities, WFUNA works to strengthen and improve the United Nations. WFUNA achieves this through the engagement of people who share a global mindset and support international cooperation – global citizens.

Jimmy Gomez

Congressman Jimmy Gomez proudly represents California’s 34th Congressional District, one of the most diverse and culturally rich districts in the country. He is an Assistant Whip in the 116th Congress and a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and the powerful House Committee on Ways and Means. Congressman Gomez is also a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), and a Vice-Chair of the Future Forum. Prior to his election to Congress in June of 2017, Congressman Gomez served four and a half years in the California State Assembly where he served as Chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee. In the Assembly, Congressman Gomez distinguished himself as a proven national champion of paid family leave and combating climate change. He became a key figure in authoring landmark legislation to address public health, environmental justice, water conservation, access to education, civic engagement, campaign finance disclosure, LGBT rights, and affordable housing

 

Maria Elena Durazo

California State Senator María Elena Durazo proudly serves California’s 24th State Senate District. Prior to being elected to the State Senate, she was an American trade union official. In addition to her union work, María Elena has served on many civic commissions and boards. Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley appointed her to the Los Angeles Commission on Airports and Mayor Richard Riordan appointed her to the Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Committee. She has also served on the California State Coastal Commission. She was the first female Secretary-Treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, the second largest labor council in the country and served on the National AFL-CIO Executive Council

Miguel Santiago

California State Assemblymember Miguel Santiago represents California’s 53rd Assembly District, one of the most vibrant and diverse districts in California. Since his election, Miguel Santiago has worked to provide housing for Californians experiencing homelessness and stimulate the development of more affordable housing in his district and across the state. He continues to work on expanding childcare, has authored some of California’s toughest gun safety regulations, and fights for the fair and equal treatment of hardworking families. Assemblymember Santiago currently serves as Chair of the powerful Communications and Conveyance Committee where he led the efforts to pass the “Internet for All Now Act of 2017” to ensure broadband access throughout California. He also sits on four other key Assembly Committees: Health, Higher Education, Public Safety, and Utilities & Energy Committees

Los Angeles City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson represents the Eighth District of Los Angeles and chairs the Planning and Land Use Committee. A lifelong champion of equity and community building, City Councilmember, Harris-Dawson supports policies that combat homelessness, create quality jobs, clean streets, and encourage community policing. As a long-time community organizer and South LA resident, Harris-Dawson values the people of South LA and relies on his deep rooted relationships to build public trust and collaborative solutions.

United Nations Advanced Training Program (UNAT)

Youth Education Program
Offered by the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), this program provides a comprehensive experience for rising 9th-12th grade students who show an early interest in international issues. It offers a unique opportunity to visit key institutions at the United Nations headquarters and receive direct education from former diplomats and current diplomats. The UNT program guides students to explore important issues related to the global activities of the United Nations in a more enjoyable atmosphere.

All rooms are equipped with oversized cozy corner sofa-sleeper and a separate work space that will help students feel at home during their stay in the U.S.

Frequently Asked Questions

The World Federation of United Nations Association (WFUNA) connects the UN member countries with their citizens through education and training to promote global citizenship. WFUNA is a global non-profit organization run by the UN that aims to promote student engagement in international relations. Stanley Prep’s non-profit educational charity organization, FIET, partners with WFUNA to provide our UN training program.
UNAT is highly selective and has eligibility requirements. During UNAT you will complete several projects and will receive the letter of recommendation upon completion of the course. UNT is for more widely selected applicants from 8th grade. Students will have seminars from different organizations within UN and will receive the certification at the end of the course.

Admissions offices in the U.S. review letters of recommendation to gain insight into a student’s leadership potential and contribution made to the community. Within 1 week of the completion of UNAT course, WFUNA will mail out the recommendation letter to each students that will portray your leadership and intellectual potential. If you would like the Letters of recommendation to be submitted directly to each university according to submission protocols, please contact Stanley Prep as soon as your university application is submitted.

Individuals interested in applying for the summer GL programs may do so by submitting an application on the Stanley Prep website at least 90 days prior to the start date of the desired program.
This program is a short-term training program in the U.S.  Applicants from countries not participating in the Visa Waiver Program with the U.S. are required to obtain a short-term visa. Stanley Prep will provide a visa support letter upon request. Applicants from countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program with the U.S. require authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).
In the event of an emergency, participants should notify Stanley Prep as soon as possible. As a U.S.-based company, Stanley Prep is prepared to quickly provide support through various local networks. Participants should call 911 if presented with a life-threatening medical or safety emergency. Please note that 911 should only be called in serious situations that require an immediate response from police officers and medical personnel. In all other cases, Stanley Prep should be the first point of contact and we will work to help you resolve any issues that may arise.
