Frequently Asked Questions

The GLI program is a U.S.-based internship program for high school students who dream of becoming leaders in the international community. Through this three-week program, students will be exposed to the major agendas in the global community and the ways in which international leaders work to resolve various problems. This program aims to cultivate the minds of those future leaders through participation-based learning.
This bi-coastal program consists of a full week of training at the United Nations in New York City, the heart of international affairs, as well as a two-week internship at the offices of various political leaders in Los Angeles, the second-largest city in the U.S. and a world leader in creativity and cultural diversity. The GLI participants will have an opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, Washington D.C., in between the New York and Los Angeles portions of the program. Participants are sure to enjoy all of the historic sights that Washington, D.C. has to offer, including the White House, U.S. Capitol and national museums.
The World Federation of United Nations Association (WFUNA) connects the UN member countries with their citizens through education and training to promote global citizenship. WFUNA is a global non-profit organization run by the UN that aims to promote student engagement in international relations. Stanley Prep’s non-profit educational charity organization, FIET, partners with WFUNA to provide our UN training program.
During their first week, participants will engage in a training program at the UN headquarters in New York City. Participants will be able to attend workshops, seminars, and meetings with UN officials. They will have the opportunity to observe discussions about global issues and to engage in the solution-seeking process. Next, participants will put their training to practical use as they intern at political offices in Los Angeles for the last two weeks of this program. As they work for the policy-makers of local government institutions, participants will be able to get a first-hand view of what it’s like to create the policies that shape and better our society.
Admissions offices in the U.S. review letters of recommendation to gain insight into a student’s leadership potential and contribution made to the community. If you are interested in receiving a letter of recommendation from the office of the political leader at which you interned, please contact Stanley Prep as soon as your university application is submitted. Stanley Prep will coordinate with local political offices to provide admissions offices with a letter of recommendation that will portray your leadership and intellectual potential. Letters of recommendation will be submitted directly to each university according to submission protocols. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the UN training program, which they may also choose to use during the university admissions process.
Individuals interested in applying for the summer or winter GLI programs may do so by submitting an application on the Stanley Prep website at least 90 days prior to the start date of the desired program. If you have a scheduling conflict for the winter program, please contact Stanley Prep for assistance as soon as possible.

Stanley Prep has carefully selected temporary housing accommodations in New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., taking into account their safety measures, locations, and premium features. The cost of the temporary housing accommodations is included in the GLI program fee.
