Puvungna

The campus is built on an ancient Tongva village and burial site known as Puvungna, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Desert Studies Center

The Desert Studies Center is a field station of the California State University located in Zzyzx, California in the Mojave Desert. The purpose of the center is to provide opportunities to conduct research, receive instruction and experience the Mojave Desert environment. It is operated by the California Desert Studies Consortium, a consortium of 7 CSU campuses: Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, Long Beach, San Bernardino, Northridge, Dominguez Hills and Los Angeles.

Space Beach Initiative

In state-of-the-art production facilities, newly established headquarters and even the sky above, world-class astronautics enterprises are converging on the Long Beach region. Capitalizing on the foundations of the aerospace industry and the skilled and diverse talent produced by CSULB, this intersection of city, industry and university has been dubbed Space Beach. The booming space industry echoes the post-World War II aerospace boom, when CSULB, the U.S. military and private companies forged lasting partnerships to develop a highly skilled local workforce and shape the fortunes of the first space race. In the intervening decades, CSULB has remained a partner of aerospace industry leaders and a cornerstone of bold initiatives that have presaged the Space Beach enterprise.

Project Ocean

Project OCEAN’s (On-Campus Emergency Assistance Network) mission is to educate the campus on suicide prevention and promote a climate that reduces the stigma associated with mental health and mental illness and encourages students to seek help when needed. We are a peer education program in the Counseling and Psychological Services department within the Division of Student Affairs and are here to support our CSULB campus by providing resources and increasing knowledge of issues related to mental health through trainings, workshops, campus events, and peer-to-peer programs.
